What is BasketNews?
BasketNews is a basketball news site. Its home page carries the title “Čia gyvena krepšinis, čia krepšinio namai - Basketnews.lt”.[1] Its own page names the publisher as UAB SPORT IN COLORS, company code 302524595, at S. Daukanto g. 8-25 in Kaunas, and lists Jonas Miklovas as director, Karolis Tiškevičius as executive director and Tomas Vanagas as editor-in-chief. The home page's footer reads “© Visos teisės saugomos. El. paštas [email protected]”.[2][1] No shareholder of UAB SPORT IN COLORS was retrieved from the site or from a register, and no ownership statement is given here.
It publishes in Lithuanian at basketnews.lt and in English at basketnews.com, whose page title reads “NBA, EuroLeague and FIBA Basketball News - Basketnews.com”.[2][3]
What does BasketNews cover?
The Lithuanian site's sections are news, games (fantasy, predictions and a quiz), matches, video and podcasts, leagues, teams, and a premium tier, BN+. Its leagues menu lists the EuroLeague, the NBA, the LKL, the World Cup qualifiers, the EuroCup, the FIBA Champions League, the King Mindaugas Cup, the second-tier NKL and Spain's ACB. Its video shows include “BasketNews podkastas”, “Savas kiemas”, “Už Atlanto”, “Eurolyga Live” and “Off the Record”.[1] When retrieved on 25 September 2026 its most recent items concerned Rytas at the FIBA Intercontinental Cup, including its semi-final opponent, a player's return home and Pacevičius's comments on the opposition, a former Žalgiris player's remarks on leaving Kaunas, a contract at Maccabi, the EuroLeague's top scorers among former NBA players, and a candidacy for the presidency of the ALK, whose Executive Committee confirms the LKL's regulations.[1][4] The English site's navigation includes news, NBA rumours, scores, BN+, leagues and the EuroLeague; its items on the same day were NBA news, among them “ESPN reveals top 10 NBA players for 2026-27: Five internationals lead the way”.[3] Those are one day's items.
The site also publishes its own statistics. On 10 May 2024 it published an attendance count for the LKL regular season, stating: “BasketNews suskaičiavo, kad vidutiniškai vienose rungtynėse apsilankė beveik trečdaliu daugiau sirgalių lyginant su ankstesniais metais.” It gave an average of 1,481 spectators per game for the 2022–23 regular season and stated that in 2023–24 “šis skaičius padidėjo 28,6 procento – iki 1905.”[5] Those are BasketNews's calculations, not the league's. The same article gives club averages for the regular season, from Kauno Žalgiris at 4,690 per game, Vilniaus Wolves Twinsbet at 3,188 and Vilniaus Rytas at 3,052, down to Pasvalio Pieno žvaigždės at 400.[5]
How large is BasketNews's audience?
The site's own page states “880k lankytojų / mėn.” and “13 mln. peržiūrų / mėn.” — 880,000 visitors and 13 million page views a month.[2] Those are the publisher's own figures; they carry no date, period or named measurement, and they are not an audited reading.
No audited figure for basketnews.lt was retrieved. Gemius's monthly overviews rank “Audituojamų svetainių (t.y. įsidiegusių Gemius matavimo skriptą į svetainės kodą)” — audited sites, those that have installed Gemius's measurement script in their code.[6] The overviews retrieved for January and August 2026 name their top-ranked sites and give no figure for basketnews.lt; whether the site is among those Gemius audits was not established.[6][7]
Since when has BasketNews existed?
The site's own page states: “Interneto portalas BasketNews.lt buvo įkurtas 2005 metų kovo 10 dieną.” That is, the portal was founded on 10 March 2005. The same page carries the line “20+ metų kartu”.[2] Both are the site's statements about itself. Its attendance article of 10 May 2024 shows it publishing on the LKL in that year.[5]
Why does BasketNews matter in Lithuania's sport?
BasketNews covers the domestic league, whose 2026–27 season began on 19 September 2026 under the Asociacija Lietuvos krepšinio lyga, as well as the EuroLeague and the NBA; its leagues menu also gives the second-tier NKL and the King Mindaugas Cup their own pages beside the LKL.[4][1] It publishes its own league-wide and club-by-club attendance counts for the LKL, as in its article of 10 May 2024.[5] Its count of 1,481 spectators per game for the 2022–23 regular season is lower than the 1,566 that 15min calculated in September 2023 for the same season; the two reports do not say whether they cover the same games, and neither is adopted here as the league's figure.[5][8] Its English edition's page title names the NBA, the EuroLeague and FIBA basketball.[3]
Its reach is documented only by its own statement of 880,000 monthly visitors; no audited measurement of the site was retrieved.[2]
