What is Antigua Observer?
The Antigua Observer is the website antiguaobserver.com and the Daily OBSERVER newspaper. The site's About Us page states: “The Daily OBSERVER newspaper is the flagship company of the OBSERVER Media Group which now goes under the banner of NewsCo Limited. NewsCo includes Observer Radio 91.1 FM, HITZ FM, antiguaobserver.com and Observer Publications.”[1] The same page describes “NewsCo Observer” as “your number one source for news in Antigua and Barbuda”; that is the publisher's own description.[1]
The site's menu carries a Sports section at the path category/big_score of the parent domain, alongside Local, Regional and International sections and a link to the latest Daily Observer. Its footer reads “Let there be light!” and “© 2026 Observer. All Rights Reserved.”[2]
What does Antigua Observer cover?
As retrieved on 26 September 2026, the front page's sports items included a report on the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons' CPL title, a West Indies recall for a tour of India, a Business League report and a Business Netball League report.[2]
Cricket. On 22 September 2026 it reported that the Falcons had captured the franchise's “first Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title with an eight-wicket victory over the Jamaica Kingsmen on Sunday night”.[3] On 8 September 2026 it reported that “The ABCA's biennial election was due in 2024”, with the explanation given by the cricket association's president and the objection of a club president.[4] On 2 January 2024 it reported, from a board press release, the Leeward Islands Cricket Board's planned move of its base from St Kitts to Antigua.[5]
Football. On 24 August 2026 it reported that the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association would open its “10-team round-robin” top division on 10 October 2026 at the Antigua Recreation Ground, quoting the association's general secretary.[6]
Netball and schools. On 21 September 2026 it reported matches of the Antigua and Barbuda Netball Association's Business Netball League at the YMCA Sports Complex.[7] On 10 March 2026 it reported, from the Commissioner of Sports, that 659 athletes from 17 schools were entered in the inter-schools track and field championships.[8]
How large is Antigua Observer's audience?
No television, radio or readership audience currency, and no audited web measurement, was found for Antigua and Barbuda, and the publisher's own pages that were read give no circulation or readership figure.[1] No audience figure is therefore given for the newspaper, the website or Observer Radio.
What can be reported is output. On 26 September 2026 the site listed five news headlines under “Latest Daily Observer” for the edition of 25 September 2026.[1] Its reports in September 2026 alone covered cricket, football, netball and business-league sport, as listed above; that is a description of output, not of readership.[2]
Since when has Antigua Observer existed?
The publisher's About Us page gives no founding date for the newspaper, the radio station or the website.[1] That page lists the Daily Observer of “25th September '26” as the “209th edition”, as printed; no explanation of that numbering is given, and it is not read here as a founding date.[1]
The current ownership statement is the page's own: the OBSERVER Media Group “now goes under the banner of NewsCo Limited”. The page does not date that change.[1] The site's archive retrieved on 26 September 2026 carries sports reports from at least January 2024, such as the Leeward Islands Cricket Board item of 2 January 2024.[5]
Why does Antigua Observer matter in Antigua and Barbuda's sport?
It is a daily newspaper with a named sports section. In 2026 its reports carried the football association's announced start date for its top division, the cricket association's statement on its delayed election, and the entry figures for the inter-schools championships, each attributed to a named official.[6][4][8]
No press-freedom or media-ownership monitoring body was found to publish a country entry for Antigua and Barbuda that names the Observer group; the address of Reporters Without Borders' country pages returned no page for Antigua and Barbuda on 26 September 2026.
