What is Alsat?

Alsat is a national commercial television broadcaster in North Macedonia whose site publishes in Albanian. The site carries the line “© Copyright 2026, All Rights Reserved ALSAT” and publishes sport at alsat.mk/sport under the title “SPORT - Alsat”.[1] The media regulator's records name the channel ТВ Алсат-М.[2][3] The site's own description states: “Programimi i tij transmetohet kryesisht në shqip dhe herë pas here në maqedonisht, bazuar në konceptet evropiane të informacionit që synojnë të nxisin bashkëjetesën shumetnike në Maqedoninë e Veriut.” Its navigation carries an “MK” link to content in Macedonian, and a “TV ALSAT” section.[4]

It gives the remaining 0.14 per cent to Ферик Велија, and gives the owners of „Веве гроуп“ as Ферик Велија with 88 per cent and Зана Велија with 12 per cent. The report takes shareholder data from the Central Registry as at 5 May 2025.[2]

What does Alsat cover?

When retrieved on 24 September 2026, the sport page's items ran from 21 September back through the summer. On 21 September it carried an item on the Swiss national team's squad.[1]

Two items concerned the handball club Vardar in the EHF Champions League, under the heading “VLT BËN TIFO”: on 10 September 2026, “VARDARI KTHEHET ATJE KU E KA VENDIN – NË LIGËN E KAMPIONËVE!”, and on 17 September, “VARDARI KUNDËR NANTES, NJË SFIDË E RE EUROPIANE PËR 'KUQEZINJTË'”. Items under the heading “IXHE”, dated 7 August, 27 August and 17 September 2026, concerned hill-climb racing, the last of them the final of the European hill-climb championship.[1] The retrieved page does not say whether the “VLT BËN TIFO” and “IXHE” items are sponsored content.

The page also carried an item of 24 April 2026 on the condition of the stadium in Veles.[1] The regulator's programme supervision covered the channel. The regulator's regular programme supervision of 1 April 2025 covered TV Alsat-M, TV Telma, TV Alfa, TV Kanal 5 and TV Sitel; it checked commercial communications, the protection of minors, quiz and contest rules, premium-rate telephone services and gaming broadcasts, and reported: “Со надзорот не се констатирани прекршувања од Законот за аудио и аудиовизуелни медиумски услуги”.[3]

How large is Alsat's audience?

Television audience figures in North Macedonia were not retrieved from an audited audience currency, and the regulator's ownership report retrieved publishes none per channel.[2] The regulator's 2024 market analysis carries a chart of shares of total viewing, “Удел во вкупната гледаност”, without naming its data source; its values could not be read consistently and are not given here.[5] The most recent per-channel figure retrieved is a regulator survey for the first quarter of 2020, reported by Meta.mk on 12 May 2020: by computer-assisted telephone interview of 2,400 respondents, 18.79 per cent said they had watched Alsat-M, against 26.88 per cent for Alfa and 32.21 per cent for Telma.[6] That is reported viewing in one quarter six years before the build date, as a news site reported it, and not a measured audience share; the report retrieved does not break the figure down by the language of the respondent.

The regulator's 2024 market analysis gives Alsat-M's 2024 revenues as MKD 180.63 million in its Table 9 of the national terrestrial channels.[5] Revenue is not audience. The regulator's announcement of 26 September 2025 gives the industry's total revenues in 2024 as MKD 3,219.21 million and the combined revenues of all commercial television stations as MKD 1,607.39 million.[7]

Since when has Alsat existed?

No founding or first-broadcast date was retrieved from Alsat's own site, and the regulator's ownership report gives none for the channel.[2] No founding date is given here.

Why does Alsat matter in North Macedonia's sport?

Alsat-M is one of the five national terrestrial channels in the regulator's records, and of the five it is the one whose sport site publishes in Albanian.[2][1] The regulator's 2024 revenue table gives it MKD 180.63 million.[5] Its sport page in September 2026 covered the Macedonian handball club Vardar in the EHF Champions League.[1]

Reporters Without Borders, in its 2026 World Press Freedom Index entry, ranks North Macedonia 45th of 180 with a score of 69.49. It states: “Although certain types of media concentration are prohibited by law, the editorial staff of some of the major TV channels are exposed to economic pressures from their owners.” It also states: “The two largest parties (in power and in opposition) have created parallel media systems over which they exert their political and economic influence.”[8] Those are RSF's characterisations of the sector; RSF does not name a channel in them. RSF's entry also states: “Although television is the dominant source of information, online media play an important role.”[8]
