What is Agencia Andina?

Agencia Andina is Peru's national news agency, publishing at andina.pe. Its own institutional page identifies it as the Agencia Peruana de Noticias, operated by Empresa Peruana de Servicios Editoriales S.A. — Editora Perú — from Avenida Alfonso Ugarte 873, Lima, and lists its subject areas as politics, economy, regional and local news, international affairs, culture, sport, technology and climate change.[1]

Editora Perú is a state company and also publishes the official gazette, Diario Oficial El Peruano; the agency's own anniversary reporting names the company in that dual role.[2] El Peruano's coverage of the agency's 45th anniversary, published 12 June 2026, states the agency's remit as to “obtener, procesar y difundir información de interés nacional en el Perú y el extranjero”.[3] Both statements are the operator's own account of itself and are attributed rather than adopted.[2][3]

What does Agencia Andina cover?

Sport is one of the agency's standing sections, published on a path of andina.pe rather than on a separate domain.[1] Its sport output includes the state's own sport programmes: its report of 29 May 2025 on the Juegos Escolares Deportivos y Paradeportivos gave the Ministerio de Educación's figures for the 33rd edition — more than three million pupils aged 10 to 17, a budget above 32 million soles, five stages from school to national round, a national stage in Lima from 1 to 8 November 2025, and surf entering the programme with 24 surfers selected by the national federation.[4]

It also covers the national federations directly, including the Federación Peruana de Voleibol's plans for the Coliseo Eduardo Dibós.[5] The school-games figures used on the Peru country page come from this agency's reporting of the ministry's numbers.[4]

How large is Agencia Andina's audience?

No audited audience figure for Agencia Andina could be retrieved. It is not among the ten online outlets the Media Ownership Monitor Peru examined, so that monitor publishes no share for it.[6]

The figures the agency does publish are its own and are measured by a web analytics tool rather than by an audited currency. Its 41st-anniversary report, published 12 June 2022, gave 201 million page views and 69 million users for the preceding month alone, with 56.5% women and 67% of access from mobile devices, attributing those numbers to Google Analytics, and added that in that same month the agency's items were reproduced 3,800 times by national and international outlets.[2] Those are the operator's own analytics figures for a single month, not a measured reach across a period, and they are carried here with their source named.[2] The anniversary report of 12 June 2026 gives no comparable numbers.[3]

Since when has Agencia Andina existed?

The agency states that it was founded on 12 June 1981, during the second presidency of Fernando Belaúnde Terry, and El Peruano's 45th-anniversary report attributes the creation to Decreto Legislativo N° 180, “promulgado el 12 de junio de 1981” — the same date the agency gives for its own founding.[3][2] El Peruano is published by Editora Perú, the agency's own operator, so it is not independent corroboration of that date.[1][3] The operative text of that decree was not retrieved for this page, so the article that creates the agency is not quoted and the attribution remains the operator's.[3]

The operating company is a separate date that could not be established: Editora Perú's own corporate site could not be retrieved, and neither anniversary report gives the company's founding instrument or year.[2][3] The agency's institutional page names Félix Paz Quiroz as director and as general manager at the time it was retrieved.[1]

Why does Agencia Andina matter in Peru's sport?

Because it is where the Peruvian state's own sport figures are first published in a citable form. The Ministerio de Educación's participation, budget and stage figures for the school games reached the record through this agency, and they are the only published participation series for organised sport in Peru that this page could retrieve.[4]

Its position in the market is also the reason to read it with its operator attached. The Media Ownership Monitor Peru states that its investigation “analyzed the 40 media outlets with the largest audience numbers in Peru” and that “out of these 40, 16 belong to the El Comercio Group”.[8] Its concentration findings set out advertising and audience shares by group for its research period.[6] A state-operated agency sits outside that private concentration and inside the state's own communications structure; State Media Monitor's April 2025 assessment of Peru's other state operator, the IRTP, classifies it as “State-Controlled (SC)”, an assessment made of that body and not of this one.[7]
