What is A Spor?

A Spor is a sports television channel with a companion news site at aspor.com.tr. Its künye names the licence-holding company as Turkuvaz ATV Televizyon Prodüksiyon A.Ş. and lists its licences as a “GENEL YAYIN TÜRÜNDE SD VE HD ÇÖZÜNÜRLÜKLÜ UYDU TELEVİZYON YAYIN LİSANSI (U-TV SD VE U-TV HD)”. The same künye gives the address as 5. Levent Mahallesi, Mareşal Fevzi Çakmak Caddesi, B Blok No. 29/1/1, Eyüpsultan, İstanbul, names Turkuvaz Haberleşme ve Yayıncılık A.Ş. as the site's host, and lists a viewer representative, Hande Ablak, alongside its editorial officers.[1]

The licence categories the künye prints are the ones Kanun No. 6112 requires. That law, adopted 15/2/2011 and published in the Resmî Gazete of 3/3/2011, No. 27863, provides at Article 27(1) that media service providers must obtain a separate licence from the Radyo ve Televizyon Üst Kurulu for each broadcasting technique and medium.[2]

The same address and the same digital-publications director and legal representative appear on the künye of the daily sports title Fotomaç, which names Turkuvaz Haberleşme ve Yayıncılık A.Ş. as its publisher.[3]

What does A Spor cover?

The channel and its site are built around domestic football and the İstanbul clubs, with basketball and a wider sports section alongside. The federation's competition statute for 2024–2025 sets the frame for the domestic core: the Süper Lig is defined there as the country's top professional football division, composed of nineteen clubs playing a double round-robin, with the four clubs finishing sixteenth to nineteenth relegated to TFF 1. Lig and international entry following UEFA's criteria and list.[4]

Article 1 of that statute reserves the naming of the division exclusively to the federation's board, which is why the division appears under a sponsor's name in broadcast branding while the statute itself carries the plain name.[4]

How large is A Spor's audience?

No audited audience figure for the channel could be retrieved. TİAK, Televizyon İzleme Araştırmaları A.Ş., describes itself as a joint-stock company formed in December 2010 “televizyon izleme araştırmalarını organize etmek ve denetlemek amacıyla”; its shareholder groups comprise an advertisers' association, an advertising agencies' association and two groups of broadcasters, and ATV is named among the channels in one of them.[5]

TİAK's 2024 yearbook gives a panel of 4,327 households at 31 December 2024, an annual average of 4,314, and a universe of 58,367,000 people aged five and over in 17,729,000 households. Its channel tables are published as top-ten rankings by rating and share for all-day and prime-time dayparts, and no channel-level share for a sports channel could be read from them.[6]

The regulator's survey measures the genre rather than the channel: the Radyo ve Televizyon Üst Kurulu's Medyametre Medya Kullanım Alışkanlıkları Araştırması 2024, with 15,766 face-to-face respondents aged 15 and over across 26 provinces and fieldwork in January–August 2024, lists “Spor Yorum Programları” among television programme types watched at 35.7 per cent.[7]

Since when has A Spor existed?

No launch date for the channel could be retrieved from its own pages. The künye names the licence-holding company, the licences held, the address and the editorial officers, and prints no date of establishment or first broadcast.[1]

What the künye does fix is the current corporate position, and that is the anchor used here: the licence holder is Turkuvaz ATV Televizyon Prodüksiyon A.Ş. and the site's host is Turkuvaz Haberleşme ve Yayıncılık A.Ş., as read on 23 September 2026.[1] Ownership statements go stale quickly and this one carries its date.

Why does A Spor matter in Turkey's sport?

It is one of the licensed television services built specifically around domestic sport, and its künye places it in the same corporate group as the daily sports title Fotomaç, which shares its address.[1][3] That combination of a licensed channel and a daily title under one group is a documented feature of the market, stated here from the two outlets' own mastheads.

On the environment in which it publishes, Reporters Without Borders places Türkiye 163rd of 180 countries in its 2026 World Press Freedom Index with a score of 27.94, on indicator scores of 20.16 political, 26.78 economic, 31.20 legal, 28.93 social and 32.61 security.[8] That is the organisation's published measurement and it is reported here without inference about this outlet. The opening sentence of the Media landscape section of its Türkiye country page reads: “With 90% of national media outlets under government control, the public has turned towards media outlets of varying political stances that are independent and critical of power over the past five years to learn about the impact of the economic and political crisis on the country.” That sentence is quoted as published, at country level.
