What is 3DownNation?

3DownNation is the dedicated Canadian-football publication — in its own words “the world’s leading Canadian football publication, providing news, insight, and analysis on all CFL nine teams”. It has a named masthead: Justin Dunk as editor-in-chief, John Hodge and J.C. Abbott as managing editors and reporters, and about ten regular contributors.[1]

What does it cover?

The CFL team by team, plus U Sports and CJFL football and Canadians in the NFL and NCAA. Daily news, a daily newsletter, four podcasts (3DownNation Podcast, Green Cast, Turf District, Xs and Argos) and — a legacy of its previous owner — a sports-betting section with sportsbook affiliate links.[1]

What is its reach and standing?

Harvard Media’s acquisition release (24 November 2025) puts the audience at “approximately 3 million users” a year in Canada, with 2.5 million Canadians engaging annually — the owner’s own figures, not an audit. The ownership history matters for how the site is read: founded 2015, transferred from Torstar to its contributors in January 2019, sold in 2022 to Catena Media — a listed online-gambling affiliate company — and bought by Harvard Media, a Regina broadcaster, in November 2025.[1] [2] [4]

Since when?

2015, per the site’s own timeline. Sources differ on the founder: Broadcast Dialogue names Drew Edwards; Harvard Media’s release calls Justin Dunk “Founder and Editor-in-Chief”.[1] [2] [4]

Why does it matter in Canadian football?

Because, in its editor’s words on the day of the sale, it is “the only place to read daily, independent coverage” of the CFL — a claim the regional papers and the league’s own site do not contradict. A 3DownNation profile or transaction report is the standard secondary source for a Canadian-football career — with the caveat, which the site’s own About page supplies, that it spent 2022–25 under a betting-affiliate owner and still carries betting content.[1] [3]
