What is 11thFrame.com?
11thFrame.com is “bowling’s digital daily newspaper delivering news, analysis and opinion”, written and run by Jeff Richgels — a Capital Times bowling columnist from 1980 to 1987, a PBA member since 1986, a USBC Hall of Famer (2011) and a two-time Team USA gold medallist — as a paid-subscription site with no advertisers.[1] [2]
What does it cover?
Bowling: USBC, PBA and PWBA tournaments, ball reviews, columns, local scoring in Wisconsin, and the history of women’s professional bowling — plus reporting on the sport’s governance and business, which most bowling outlets, being federation- or industry-owned, do not do.[1]
What is its reach and standing?
No subscriber figure is published; the site costs US$4 a month or $36 a year. Its standing is Richgels’s own — three halls of fame, five USBC Eagles, thirty PBA regional titles — and its stated independence: “I have no advertisers, and therefore no one in bowling has any leverage over me.”[1]
Since when?
Began as a blog at Madison.com in 2008, became an independent site in 2012 and went behind a paywall in September 2015. Richgels semi-retired from competitive bowling at the end of 2022.[1]
Why does it matter in bowling?
Because much of the sport’s press belongs to its governing body or its equipment industry (see Bowlers Journal). For an independent account of a tournament, a rule change or a federation decision, this is a daily source that is neither, written by someone who has competed at the top of the sport.[1] [2]
