What is USA Hockey?

USA Hockey is the national governing body of ice hockey in the United States — founded in 1937 as the Amateur Hockey Association of the U.S., based in Colorado Springs, an IIHF member with roughly 550,000 registered players, coaches and officials.[1]

What does USA Hockey govern?

The U.S. national teams at every level — the Olympic and Worlds squads, the celebrated National Team Development Program (NTDP) that raised the Hughes and Tkachuk generations, women's and para teams — plus youth hockey registration, coaching and officiating certification nationwide. At Milano Cortina 2026 its teams swept both golds, the men's first since 1980, each 2–1 in overtime over Canada.[1][2][3]

Why does USA Hockey matter?

Every American cap and international transfer card runs through the federation, and NTDP and national-team selection are elite credentials in the sport — the program behind the deepest American talent generation in hockey history.[1][2]
