What is the Patriot League?

The Patriot League is a Division I conference of academically selective universities in the Northeast, founded on an Ivy-style scholar-athlete model.[1][2]

Members and sports

Members include Bucknell, Colgate, Lehigh, Lafayette, Boston University, Holy Cross, Loyola Maryland and American, with Army and Navy competing in many league sports. The league sponsors championships including swimming & diving.[1]

Since when does it exist?

Founded in 1986 as the Colonial League, renamed the Patriot League in 1990.[1]

Why does the Patriot League matter?

The league pairs Division I competition with among the highest academic standards outside the Ivy League — its honors carry that dual scholar-athlete weight.[1][2]
