What is the Giro d'Italia?
The Giro d'Italia is Italy's Grand Tour — three weeks each May since 1909, its leader in the maglia rosa, the pink jersey of its founding newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport. Jonas Vingegaard won the 2026 Giro with five stage wins, becoming just the eighth rider to win all three Grand Tours — the first since Chris Froome.[1] [2]
| Season | Pool / Format | Host cities |

| 2026 | Jonas Vingegaard (DEN) | 5 stage wins — completed the Grand Tour set, first since Froome |
| 2025 | Simon Yates (GBR) | |
| 2024 | Tadej Pogačar (SLO) | Giro–Tour double season |
| 2023 | Primož Roglič (SLO) | Decided in the final time trial |

How does it work?
Like the Tour: 21 stages, cumulative time, with points and mountains jerseys beside the pink — but the Giro's identity is its mountains, the Dolomites and the tappone, and its May weather chaos. Organized by RCS Sport on the UCI WorldTour, with the Giro d'Italia Women in summer.[1] [3]
Why does it matter?
It is the second pillar of the Grand Tour triple crown — its winners' list runs from Coppi and Merckx to today's champions, and pink-jersey history is core to any climber's record.[1] [2]
